Hess Lab receives award as part of UW Research Forward Initiative

Our proposal with Jon Audhya and Weiping Tang was one of the nine awarded proposals selected by the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research (OVCR) as part of the Research Forward Initiative. This initiative that is supported by the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation (WARF) to support innovate and ground-breaking research.

The proposal, titled Identifying therapeutic peptides for autophagy-mediated degradation of pathogenic protein aggregates, seeks to use high-throughput screening to identify peptides that induce autophagy of protein aggregates using our high-throughput screening platform. The top candidate peptides will be chemically modified in the Tang lab to target protein aggregates in a rat neuronal model developed in the Audhya lab.
