Welcome to the Hess Lab!

In the Hess Lab, we put the “fun” in functional genomics. We develop and apply high-throughput genomic approaches, including CRISPR screens, to answer critical questions in precision medicine that impact human health. Our interdisciplinary research employs both experimental and computational methods at the interface between genomics, molecular biology, biochemistry, and bioengineering. Using cutting-edge genome engineering tools and genomic technologies in mammalian systems, we:

  1. Define the genetic factors that effect disease risk and therapeutic efficacy

  2. Elucidate the function of biomolecules for engineering or manipulating mammalian cells

  3. Develop high-throughput approaches for studying mammalian biology
